The Academic burst onto the international music scene with their debut album, Tales From The Backseat (2018), a chart-topping release in Ireland filled with infectious guitar hooks and vivid lyrics about teenage life in rural Ireland. The album’s success propelled them onto tours across Europe, the UK, and North America, quickly cementing their place as a band to watch.

Since their debut, they’ve released two EPs (Acting My Age, Community Spirit) and a second album, Sitting Pretty, while supporting acts like Louis Tomlinson, The Rolling Stones, and The Killers. Their music has resonated deeply with fans, soundtracking key moments of their lives and creating a devoted following.

From humble beginnings in Mullingar, Ireland, where they started playing local pubs in 2013, The Academic quickly found success with sold-out shows, chart-topping tracks, and Choice Music Prize nominations. Despite their rise, they remain grounded, continually evolving their sound while staying true to their love of big choruses and authentic songwriting.

“We’ve changed, but we’re still us,” says bassist Stephen Murtagh, reflecting on their growth. Their latest work marks a more introspective chapter, shaped by experience and a desire to push boundaries. As frontman Craig Fitzgerald notes, “We trust our gut and love what we create—that’s never going to change.”
