Warhaus, the solo project of Maarten Devoldere, returns two years after Ha Ha Heartbreak with Karaoke Moon. Fans of the previous album’s melancholic tone will be surprised by the opener, ‘Where The Names Are Real’.
The track begins softly, with acoustic guitar and haunting vocals, before Devoldere breaks through with the line: "Babe, I'm in love with you!" His smooth voice, accompanied by swinging drums and a lush build of strings, sets the tone for the album’s seductive mood.
After presenting over 50 demos, producer Jasper Maekelberg pushed him to go deeper. The result is Warhaus' most compelling work yet, blending introspection with humor. Tracks like ‘Jacky N’ and ‘What Goes Up’ explore themes of masculinity with wit and self-awareness.
Throughout Karaoke Moon, Devoldere combines dark soul-searching with playful, rich orchestration. Songs like ‘No Surprise’ have a sultry, danceable vibe, adding layers of charm and sophistication. The album’s contrasts and catchy melodies make it a captivating listen, revealing more with each play.
